COVID delays again

Hello All,

It seems the with the current Alberta lock down the Common Ground Community Cafe has been closed. I will still be exhibiting there, but the exhibit will be likely some time in February. I will keep you updated as to the new date.

The folks at Night of Artists are still planning to go ahead with their exhibit March 19-21, so stay posted for more info about this event too.

As always, stay safe and healthy.

Deb

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

This year has been a weird one for the record books. I hope as this year ends with the holiday season that you are healthy, safe and able to connect with those you love (in some way - even virtual). I hope 2021 is a year of healing, recovery, and re-openings.

Exhibitions, competitions, galleries are planning to reopen live and virtually. I will be announcing events as they become confirmed - hopefully including the Night of Artists St. Albert show in March.

Being an artist for me means working from my home studio in a solitary way, and being an introvert this suites me most days. My biggest challenges this year was not being able to show my work in person with so many cancelled events, getting materials, and missing out on education opportunities. I realize for so many others their work life, family life, finances and health have been impacted and it has made me even more thankful for what I have. Good bye to 2020 and Hello 2021 :) Thank you to my clients, friends and family.

Deb

Update re: Covid-19

Hello,

I hope everyone reading this page is safe, healthy, and managing the COVID-19 situation. Night of Artists had been postponed to November but has been recently cancelled outright. It seems the new direction is online, virtual and digital shows. I hope to be in some virtual or online shows this fall - stay tuned and stay well.

Check out my COVID-19 sculpture that shows the beginning of the pandemic and how overwhelming it seemed. I hope to continue this as a series showing about how we learned to adapt, cope and even thrive.

More Cancellations

Hello Folks,

As the COVID-19 situation evolves the added restrictions, advice and warnings have made cancellations of several shows necessary. I will not be at the Spruce Grove Portrait Show and all ACACA zone and Alberta wide shows have been cancelled. Not sure what the summer holds - but I will keep you updated. Feel free to watch my works in progress (casting and molding right now) on my Instagram @deblaninga.art.

I will keep sculpting and working from my home studio. If you see something you would like a price on or would like to commission a piece please contact me. I am happy to stay connected with my customers and friends electronically :)

All my best wishes to everyone, please stay safe and healthy. Sincerely,
Deb

Night of Artists POSTPONED

Due to the warnings issued by the Government of Alberta today regarding events and gatherings of large numbers of people the Night of Artists show has been postponed until November. If other shows are postponed or cancelled I will do my best to provide updates, thanks for your patience.

Stay well,

Deb

Anatomy Tools - the next step

Hey all, hope you are doing well. I am heading down to Las Vegas to continue my journey learning more about human anatomy. Taking level 2 and 3 of Anatomy Tools course - human anatomy for sculptors. So excited, nervous and studying hard to remember the bones, tendons, muscles and how they all fit together. Really wish I had taken biology in school.

Face Off - Portraits Demo at Artelier

On Friday June 21 the Paint Spot/Artelier in Edmonton hosted at Face Off - where 2 artists painted each other’s portraits live. It was great to see their different approaches, styles, and results. The artists were Daphne Cote and Oksana Zhelisko (both Edmonton area professional artists) who both worked in oil. Check out the Paint Spot for more events like this: https://www.paintspot.ca/
